Photo by Megan CrossAmerican sculptor David Hayes, a student of renowned sculptor David Smith, currently lives and works in Coventry, Connecticut. Hayes has participated in more than 300 exhibitions and is included in many international collections including those of the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. A recipient of a post-doctoral Fulbright Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship, he was also awarded a Logan Medal of the Arts for Sculpture and an award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters.
Fountain was part of a large bequest of art from alumnus and prominent collector Lawrence Bloedel. Along with several other sculptural works from Bloedel’s collection, the sculpture is located outside of the main campus at Field Farm.
