Fellows Travel to Olana

It is a spectacular view. In the afternoon sun, the water of the Hudson River shimmers and the peaks of the Catskill Mountains glow. You step down from the back porch, turn around, and look up to study the façade of the house. Bold geometric shapes and delicately attenuated script flow freely throughout in reds, blues, and golds and culminate in a powerful minaret. Here, Persian design meets American landscape: this is Olana.

On Sunday, September 21, at 10 am, the Fellows—some of WCMA’s most enthusiastic supporters—will meet at the then home and now historic site of famed Hudson River School painter Frederic Edwin Church for a special tour with our Curator of American Art, Kevin Murphy. After a delicious lunch at George Ahl’s house, Fellows will have the option of continuing to Bard College to attend a musical performance by So Percussion at the stunning Gehry-designed Fisher Center or to check out the exhibitions on view at the Center for Curatorial Studies and Hessel Museum of Art.

This is just one of the many special events planned for Fellows over the next few months. Others include the annual Fall Fellows Weekend in Williamstown and outings to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Harvard Art Museums, and Art Basel Miami Beach.

As always, we are extremely grateful for the support of our Fellows and Friends.
